Info for Mozart: Piano Works (Neglected Treasures)

Second release on Ondine by the award-winning pianist Anastasia Injushina features some of the lesser-known aspects of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s (1756–1791) piano music. Injushina is particularly known for the poetry and sensitivity in her playing, which makes Mozart’s music, among others, a perfect choice for repertoire for her.

During the 1780s Mozart became deeply interested in Baroque music. In Vienna he took actively part in Sunday meetings arranged by van Swieten where the music of the old masters, such as Handel and Bach, were played. As a result the influence of Baroque music became visible in some of Mozart’s works which are heard on this disc.

The Suite in C was influenced by Handel’s piano suites. Prelude and Fugue is a great example of Mozart’s interest in the art of the Fugue and the music of Bach. The Sonata movement KV 312 and Andante in F major for Small Mechanical Organ are among Mozart’s last completed pieces. Twelve Variations in C major on 'Ah vous dirai-je, Maman' is a delightful piece based on the famous children’s song Twinkle, twinkle, little star.

Anastasia Injushina, piano

Anastasia Injushina
began her piano studies at the age of four, and soon she studied at St. Petersburg conservatoire in the Lubov Rudova class. Already then she toured the country as an orchestra soloist, and at the age of ten she premiered in the famous hall of St. Petersburg Philharmonie.

Injushina moved to Finland in 1991 and started studying at the Sibelius-Academy with Viathcheslav Novikov. When still studying, she was awarded the II position at the national Maj Lind piano competition and she won I prize at the Munich ARD competition. This victory meant a leap in her solo career, but also helped Injushina develop herself as a chamber musician in an international level.

After her studies, Anastasia Injushina has made numerous radio and television recordings, for such broadcasting companies as ARD, Bayerischer Rundfunk, Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk, Norddeutscher Rundfunk and Finnish YLE. She has been invited to perform at several international music festivals, among which Schleswig-Holstein, Mecklenburg, MDR-Sommer, Kuhmo Chamber Music and Mikkeli Music festival. Ms Injushina has continued to give concerts around Europe and South America, both as a soloist and a chamber musician with the world leading musicians as partners.

One of the thriving forces of Anastasia Injushina’s career has been her special relationship with chamber music. After many years of work, this love for music developed into a decision to build up a new chamber music event in Helsinki. Since 2009, Anastasia Injushina has been the artistic director of her own Helsinki Chamber Music Festival.
