Info for Handel Jazz

A refreshing view of Georg Friedrich Händel opens Rolf Zielke in its new commercial jazz project. In his approach of the Berlin pianist translated the music of the Baroque composers, whose work used to be a gateway to the world of the Commonwealth has opened, full of groove and playfulness. Handel's life resembled the dynamic of today's jazz legends, biographies - and seduces the imaginative adaptation of Rolf Zielke in the Baroque world charm with surprisingly beguiling music. The checkered history of the Halle Handel, who at 14.04. 1759 died in London is like the life of jazz legends, the richness of his music invites you to a jazz interpretation. Of the Berlin pianist Rolf Zielke arranged impressions from the different compositions of Handel's music for his trio. A promising venture: Handel's music, which is dominated by Baroque joie de vivre meets, while the rhythmic sensuality of South America and the sparkling joy of playing this rousing jazz trio. Rolf Zielke bows to the work and spirit of Handel: His arrangements illustrate - respectfully - Handel's original new music. Operatic arias, oratorio choirs and much more to rousing groove music - including virtuoso improvisations.

'Technically he knows all the tricks... The man from Berlin presents himself as a pianist who is able to surprise an overcrowded trio-genre with a fresh, new sound.' 'JAZZTHING'

Rolf Zielke - Piano

Stephan Abel - Tenor Saxophone
Stephan Abel arbeitete und tourte schon mit Gene 'Mighty Flea' Conners, Charly Antolini, Randy Crawford, Jimmy Woodie, Benny Bailey, The Temptations, Lionel Hampton, Angela Brown, Barbara Dennerlein, Maria Joào, Janice Harrington u.a.

Stephan Braun - Cello

Rhani Krija - Percussion
Rhani Krija was born in Essaouira, Morocco, right in the heart of the Gnawa culture. Rhani Krija grew up listening and exploring many different North African music styles, which formed the basis for his musical work today.
As a teenager, he began to work professionally as a percussionist with some of the most respected musicians of the traditional Moroccan music scene, and he soon established himself as a sought-after musician, well known for his authentic grasp of Arabic, Andalusian, African and Latin American music styles. A few years later, Rhani lived and worked in France for a while before eventually moving to Cologne, Germany, where he now has his home base. Over the years, he has been featured on many television shows as well as at Jazz & World Music festivals in France, Germany, The Netherlands, Tunisia, Morocco, Argentina, Slovenia, and many other countries. Mastering a large variety of percussion instruments such as the Darbouka, Riqq, frame drums, congas, bongos, Djembe, Caribbean timbales and many others, his musical influences today are derived from a combination of traditional Arabic and North African rhythms, Latin American styles, Blues, Reggae and Pop. Rhani has been appearing, touring and sharing the stage with Housseine Kili, Djamel Laroussi, Omar Sosa, Momo Djender, Eda Zari, Don Byron, Karim Ziad (formerly with Joe Zawinul and others), Mokhtar Samba (Yousso N´dour, Salief Keita), WDR Big Band, Vinnie Colaiuta, Dominic Miller, Adel Salameh, Keziah Jones and many others. In February 2003, Rhani was invited by STING to record percussion tracks for STING´s new album “Sacred Love”, which was released later that year. The collaboration continued on STING´s DVD “Inside – The Songs Of Sacred Love”, on which Rhani is prominently featured as the percussionist of the band, followed by the worldwide promotion tour for the “Sacred Love” album, which kept him busy until the end of 2003. Since January 2004, Rhani is on the road again with STING as the percussionist in STING´s band on the “Sacred Love” world tour, and he feels privileged that his work with STING not only gave him the opportunity to share the stage with “the man himself”, but also with jazz greats of the likes of Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea.

Guilherme Castro - Bass
Guilherme Castro plays electric bass and guitar. He started his career in the late 1970’s in his hometown of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, where he played and composed for the local drama scene. He also worked with singer/composer Eduardo Dusek. Guilherme was a member of the Banda de Lá, a Latin jazz group and a musical lab for young musicians, in which he had the pleasure to work with and learn from musicians later to become leading Brazilian artists such as Carlos Malta, Márcio Bahia and Arthur Maia, among others. Guilherme has been living and working in Berlin (Germany), since 1982, when he started the group Amazonas together with Dudu Tucci and Ronaldo Folegatti. Since then he has been regularly invited to join many bands, do studio work, TV and radio, as well as live performances. He has played with musicians such as Charlie Mariano, Hendrik Meurkens, David Friedman, Till Brönner, Peter Weniger, Christian Grabandt, Dan Gotschall, Reggie Moore, Ralf Rickert, Justo Perez as well as with singers such as Jocelyn B. Smith, Pete Wyoming Bender, Kara Johnstad and Céline Rudolph. He has currently been playing with German singer Katja Ebstein. Tobias Backhaus - Drums
