Contemporary music is alive and well in innumerable forms and genres, and the flexibility and colorful sonorities of the flute have attracted composers of every style. This collection of beautiful chamber music with flute is performed by award-winning soloist Alice K. Dade and includes four premiere recordings. These take us from Aaron Jay Kernis’s Air, the composer’s ‘love letter in music,’ via the youthful memories of Michael Fine’s Skipping Stones, the Baroque and jazz elements in Noam Elkies’ E Sonata and the breathtaking mountain scenery of Jennifer Margaret Barker’s Na Trì Peathraichan, to the novel and mysterious musical mirroring of Dan Coleman’s Pavanes and Symmetries. This is a program to tease the imagination and stimulate the senses.

Alice K. Dade
Flutist Alice K. Dade enjoys a career of great variety including concerto appearances, performing chamber music, recording projects, and guest principal performances in orchestras in Asia and Scandinavia.

Alice has performed as concerto soloist with Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil Red de Escuelas de Música de Medellín, PRIZM Chamber Music Festival ,and the Festival Mozaic Orchestra. Upcoming concerto appearances include performances with Guanajuato Symphony orchestra in Mexico.

As a chamber musician, Alice has performed on the Busan One Asia Festival, Chestnut Hill Chamber Series, the Concordia Chamber Players at The Princeton Festival, Summerfest of Kansas City, and at National Flute Association Conventions.

As Acting Co-Principal Flute of the Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Alice performed in concert tours to Russia, Germany, Italy, and Belgium under conductors Valery Gergiev, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and Daniel Harding. She has also performed as Guest Principal Flute with the Bergen Philharmonic and Seoul Philharmonic, as well as Guest Piccolo with the St. Louis Symphony. In addition, she has performed with the Moscow Chamber Orchestra, New York Philharmonic, Los Angeles Philharmonic, Detroit Symphony Orchestra, and the Oregon Symphony.

As a fellow of the New World Symphony under Artistic Director Michael Tilson Thomas, Alice is featured in the book: Feast For the Senses: A Musical Odyssey by Lin Arison and photographer Neil Folberg. Prose, photography, and DVDs document Alice and fellow orchestra members in their chamber music performances throughout the Umbria region of Italy.

Alice can be heard on Deutsche Grammophon and Arte Verum. Her first solo recording, Living Music, has a program of music written after 1980 by composers Noam Elkies, Aaron Jay Kernis, Jennifer Margaret Barker, Dan Coleman, and Michael Fine. The recording will be released on Naxos in 2017/18.

Alice joined the faculty at the University of Missouri School of Music in 2011 and has been on faculty of PRIZM Chamber Music Festival, Flutes by the Sea, and Medellín Festicamara. She was the Assistant Program Chair of the 2014 National Flute Association Convention in Chicago and is a member of the NFA Career and Artistic Development Committee. A columnist of Chicago Flute Club’s magazine Pipeline since 2010, Alice has also been published in Flute Talk Magazine, The Instrumentalist, and The Flute View.

Honored with the Young Artist Award upon graduation from Interlochen Arts Academy, Ms. Dade received her undergraduate and graduate degrees from The Juilliard School, where she studied with Robert Langevin, Carol Wincenc, and Sandra Church.

Alice is a Powell Artist and plays on a handemade 14K Powell with a platinum headjoint.
