Others write memoirs. Jens Düppe, musician, drummer, composer, band leader and curator of interdisciplinary exciting projects has recorded 30 years of his musical work in his own language, the language of music, as the solo album ego_D.

Jens Düppe, who, like the US composer Michael Gordon, is known as "music without borders", has always wanted to document his (musical) encounters in his own compositions. He has incorporated much of this into his numerous projects. He unites contemporary music and jazz of different styles to a programme that is oriented towards life and that has it all. ego_D and Jens Düppe are more than a programme, here music history of the future is being written, a drum set that moves from the sideman niche into the centre of creativity. And yes, there are two dialogues between the soloist on the CD. On the one hand with the young Cologne house music producer and rapper Jabul, who as a "native American speaker" interprets Düppe's poem "THE DRUM" in a fresh and dynamic way.

And on the other hand with the soul jazz singer Jocelyn B. Smith from New York. She worked together with Jens Düppe on the vocal elaboration of Düppe's song "1000 Stars", which ultimately resulted in a rousing polyphony and a remarkable and unique solo - two solos in dialogue, after all. In the end, Corona provided the trigger for this "life's work of the world of life" of the artist Jens Düppe to now be audible in the form of a CD. The project is already known live. In Corona's time, for example, Jens Düppe played live for the transatlantic streaming portal DREAMSTAGE, at the Karlsruhe Kulturtempel, the King Georg Jazzclub in Cologne and the showcase jazz club Tonne in Dresden.

On the album ego_D, Jens Düppe takes us on a musical journey that includes 10 stations. The music is "live" at every moment, i.e. it was recorded without loops or other technical aids. That was always important to Düppe in this project.

lebt in Köln und spielt als Schlagzeuger in zahlreichen international tätigen Formationen. Düppe leitet und konzeptioniert seit 2010 die Improvisations- Konzertreihe Kommunikation9, welche Musikkulturen verbindend und kunstgenreübergreifend in und um Köln stattfindet und von öffentlicher Hand getragen ist. Als Bandleader und Komponist rief er die „Jens Düppe Akustik Band“ ins Leben und das frei - improvisierende Elektronik Duo NEOFOBIC.

Im edukativen Bereich hat Düppe mit dem Improvisationszyklus „lifecycle of a star“ ein Schulprojekt für Kinder und Jugendliche geschaffen. Ziel ist das Nahe bringen von Improvisation ohne die Grenzen und Einschränkungen eines Musikstils. Mit diesem Projekt war Düppe auch als externer Dozent an der MHMK (Macromedia Hochschule) in Köln tätig. Im Bereich des Schlagzeugspielens entwickelte Düppe eine allgemeine Zusammenfassung für Schlagzeug, welche als Basis dient für das Erlernen dieses Instrumentes. Düppe wurde als Dozent eingeladen für den nationalen Nachwuchsförderpreis des Deutschen Musikrates „Jugend Jazzt“ und die deutsche Jugend Big Band, das „Bundesjazzorchester“. Für das GOETHE Institut war Düppe bereits in allen 5 Kontinenten tätig, mit wechselnden Besetzungen und Projekten.

Jens Düppe kommt ursprünglich aus Schwäbisch Gmünd in Süd-Deutschland. Er bekam früh Klavierunterricht, begann mit 10 Jahren Schlagzeug zu lernen und studierte bis 2002 Jazz an den Musikhochschulen in Weimar, Amsterdam und New York City. Düppe war lange Zeit Mitglied des Bundesjugendjazzorchesters (BuJazzO). 2003 holte ihn Albert Mangelsdorff ins Deutsch-Französische Jazz Ensemble und arbeitete daraufhin mit Düppe zusammen im Mangelsdorf-Dauner Quintett.
