Info for Closer To The Sun

Hard rock songwriters Tyketto will release their sixth studio album, Closer To The Sun, on March 20, 2026 via Silver Lining Music. With this record, the band unveils some of their finest rock anthems, superbly chiselled, celebrating the return of this unjustly underrated quintet, originally founded in New York. Led by singer and founding member Danny Vaughn, the album was recorded at several studios in the UK and Europe, including Flip Flop Studios and Rockfield in Wales. From the swing and assurance of "Higher Than High", their deep appreciation of the liberating power of music is evident, Vaughn roaring: "In this space, you can learn to heal / There is music that helps you feel/ Higher than high." Alongside Vaughn, Harry Scott Elliott on guitar, Ged Rylands on keyboards, Chris Childs (Thunder) on bass and Johnny Dee (Doro) on drums deliver high-level performances and literally crackle the tracks. Throughout Closer To The Sun, Tyketto talks to the listener about true loves, losses and pleasures in life. From the triumphant and unifying anthem of the eponymous title, celebrating the power of love, to the punchy brutality of "Hit Me Where It Hurts", designed to raise fists and make hearts beat to the powerful ballad "The Picture," Tyketto continues to evolve confidently on the same musical field as Whitesnake or Aerosmith, with added freshness New for many listeners. Closer To The Sun sees Tyketto reaffirm his place among rock's most respected and enduring names.

Formed in New York in the late 1980s, Tyketto emerged as one of the most respected acts of the melodic rock era with their acclaimed 1991 debut album ‘Don't Come Easy.' Fronted by the powerful and soulful voice of Danny Vaughn, the band built a loyal following through a blend of soaring melodies, emotional songwriting and hard rock muscle, producing enduring fan favourites such as ‘Forever Young' and ‘Standing Alone.' Subsequent releases including ‘Strength in Numbers' and later reunion-era records like ‘Reach' continued to showcase the band’s knack for heartfelt lyrics, towering choruses and Vaughn’s distinctive vocal presence.

Over the decades, Tyketto have remained a beloved name within melodic rock, admired for their optimism, musicianship and refusal to fade quietly into nostalgia. Upcoming March 20th release, ‘Closer to the Sun,' released more than thirty years after their breakthrough, has captured much of that same spirit that made ‘Don’t Come Easy' such a defining record. Packed with huge melodies, emotional ballads and uplifting anthems, the album demonstrates that Vaughn’s songwriting and voice remain as powerful as ever, reaffirming the band’s place among the most enduring and respected acts in classic melodic hard rock. We caught up with Danny recently to talk all about it.

Tyketto
were an American heavy rock band of the 1990s who never achieved the success they felt they deserved. The group was put together in 1987 by former Waysted vocalist Danny Vaughn. Brooke St James (Guitar), Jimi Kennedy (Bass) and Micheal Clayton (Drums) completed the lineup.

By 1990 the band had signed to Geffen Records, and released their debut album "Don't Come Easy". Musically, it was somewhere between Whitesnake and Bon Jovi, with Tyketto opening for the former on many bills.

However, the rise of the 'grunge' sound in 1991 saw Tyketto's hopes of the big breakthrough begin to recede. Jimi left the band and was replaced by Jamie Scott. Their second album was rejected by Geffen and finally emerged in 1994 under the title "Strength In Numbers" on CMC in the USA and Music for Nations elsewhere in the world.

The following year Vaughn left the band to look after his wife, who had developed cancer, and was replaced by former Tall Stories vocalist Steve Augeri. Tyketto's sound began to move more towards a Journey-type style (Augeri would later become lead vocalist for Journey), and this line-up released "Shine" in 1995, again on CMC / Music for Nations.

However, dwindling audiences and the changing landscape of the rock industry saw the band disband in 1996, releasing "Take Out & Served Up Live" as a swansong, having never really broken through. The various band members went onto other projects, most notably Danny, Micheal and Jamie would reunite in VaughnIn 2004 Tyketto reformed for a reunion tour with the full original lineup.
