It can happen quickly, from one moment to the next: Certainties and habits come to an abrupt end - in ictu oculi. Only then does it become clear that it was probably a bubble, this supposed security in which it is possible to live excellently, in the secret but firm belief that it could go on forever. The crisis makes it tangible: there is still something outside the bubble, and it must continue there, since the familiar paths have been buried. Should life itself then also be enclosed by a fine and fragile border? We all have the knowledge of finiteness. But it becomes palpable in the crisis. Many miss what they are used to, what they have achieved, what they take for granted. Others, on the other hand, are sorely missed.

Feelings not only of fear and despair, but also of longing and hope have always found their most vivid reflection in music and song. We at the Voktett Hannover are very pleased that we have been able to win over four outstanding composers for this project: Alberto Arroyo, Friederike Bernhardt, Max-Lukas Hundelshausen and Shadi Kassaee, whose works have enriched us with a new, current and compelling expression. Both textually and musically, these works are committed to the great timeless themes of transience and insecurity under the sign of crisis, but also to the personal experiences of the composers, their insights, the hopes and longings of our crisis-ridden days and thus also the longing for human closeness and contact.

The four contemporary works are embedded between the five movements of Hans Leo Hassler's Missa Octo Vocum (1599): Kyrie, Gloria, Credo, Sanctus and Agnus Dei. Old and new music sound side by side in a dialogue that spans the ages.

Voktett Hanover

Das VOKTETT HANNOVER
wurde 2012 als ein gemischtes und doppelchörig besetztes Vokalensemble von Studierenden der Hochschule für Musik, Theater und Medien Hannover gegründet. Die acht Sängerinnen und Sänger, welche in unterschiedlichen musikalischen Bereichen tätig sind, verbindet einerseits der Wunsch, herausragende Werke der Vokalmusik auf hohem Niveau zu durchdringen und andererseits, einem breiten Publikum den Zugang zu solchen musikalischen Ereignissen zu ermöglichen. Sie widmen sich in ihren abwechslungsreichen Programmen vorrangig A-cappella-Werken, die möglichst facettenreich die vielstimmige Vokalmusik der europäischen Musikgeschichte widerspiegeln sollen. Ihr umfassendes Repertoire reicht von den Anfängen der polyphonen Vokalmusik bis zu Kompositionen der Gegenwart. Seit 2017 gestaltet das Ensemble zudem regelmäßig Konzerte mit Instrumentalbegleitung. So waren sie beispielsweise an Karfreitag 2017 in der Markuskirche Hannover mit der Johannes-Passion von J. S. Bach zu hören und musizierten im März 2018 mit dem Oboisten Albrecht Mayer bei der Musikwoche Hitzacker.

Das VOKTETT HANNOVER ist 1. Preisträger des Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Hochschulwettbewerbs 2015 sowie 1. Preisträger des Deutschen Chorwettbewerbs 2018 in der Kategorie Vokalensemble. Zudem wurde dem Ensemble beim Deutschen Chorwettbewerb in Freiburg sowohl der Sonderpreis der Walter und Charlotte Hamel Stiftung als auch der Sonderpreis der Rondeau Production verliehen. Im Rahmen der 14. Internationalen A-cappella-Woche Hannover nahm das Ensemble im Mai 2014 an einem Meisterkurs mit dem international renommierten Vokalensemble New York Polyphony teil. Im Anschluss an den Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy Hochschulwettbewerb wurde 2015 eine Preisträger-CD produziert, welche unter anderem bei NDR Kultur und Deutschlandfunk Kultur vorgestellt wurde.
