Die coronabedingte Konzertpause war der perfekte Anlass für Hooper, seinen langgehegten Traum vom Kellerstudio endlich umzusetzen. Hier fand er Ruhe und Zeit „einfach nur einen Haufen Songs zu schreiben“. Vielleicht klingt das Album deswegen auch so viel mehr aus einem Guss. Gemeinsam mit ihrem Produzenten Nikolai Potthoff und ihrem Schlagzeuger Jonah Förster nahmen die drei Bandkollegen in Hoopers Heimstudio auf. „Zuhause aufzunehmen hat auch den Druck rausgenommen: diese Zeit war unsere Zeit. Wir mussten kein großes Studio bezahlen, niemand hat irgendetwas von uns erwartet. Wir hatten einfach Zeit für uns.“
MEXICO ist so intim, persönlich und unmittelbar, wie Mighty Oaks klangen als sich die Welt in sie verliebte. Aber gleichzeitig ist es auch das erwachsene Album dreier Musiker, die ihre Stimme gefunden haben, die das Leben mit all seinen Höhen und Tiefen leben und die sich schon längst nicht mehr beweisen müssen – und gerade deswegen umso ehrlichere, direktere und berührendere Songs schreiben können, Songs für unsere Zeit.
„Ich habe mich noch nie so gut mit einem Album gefühlt wie jetzt“, sagt Ian Hooper. Und wer einmal zuhört, weiß genau warum.

Mighty Oaks
Three young men, from three countries, combining three part harmonies, resulting in one unique sound. This Berlin based indie-folk band comprised of Ian Hooper (US), Claudio Donzelli (Italy), and Craig Saunders (UK) writes honest, authentic and emotionally driven songs. Acoustic guitars and mandolins form the centre of their sound, layers of electric guitars create space and depth, rounded off through solid bass lines and the heartbeat of a simple drum. The music sets the perfect scene for the lyrics, which often draw their inspiration from the Pacific Northwest, the birthplace of Hooper. Set amidst these wonderful landscapes come tales of love, loss and the beauty of all that surrounds.
