Info for We Don't Imagine Anymore
"We Don't Imagine Anymore" is drummer and Usbl Jazztalent award winner Veslemøy Narvesen's first step out as both bandleader, composer and lyricist.
In recent years, Narvesen has been active in a number of projects such as Kongle Trio, Mall Girl, KALLE and with musicians such as Moddi, MoE, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten and Mette Rasmussen. For the occasion, she has put together an ensemble consisting of some of her favorite musicians who have all inspired her strongly, and who to a large extent also characterize the current, Norwegian jazz scene.
The phrase "We Don't Imagine Anymore" appeared after a time of creative drought and a state of desperation. Where do our creative abilities hide when they disappear from time to time? Where do we get our thoughts, fantasies and visions from? To what extent is our own creativity and ability to fantasize characterized by the gaze of others and the imprint of others? And what internal and external factors facilitate the way we create? These and many other thoughts stand as a source of inspiration for the theme in the music of the project. The title is a statement, or a question about what happens to our creativity both in meeting others, or in the absence of meeting others.
With the title's insistent pessimism, Narvesen does not want to stifle hope, but rather portray a personal desperation around what happens when contact with music, creativity and ourselves becomes alien.
“Anyone with a pair of ears will be stunned by her ability to take on music, whether she is a leader or a member of the group” - Citizen Jazz, 2023
“Another strand boldly running throughout posited an awareness of jazz-inclined Seventies singer-songwriters such as John Martyn and Joni Mitchell. Audacious, and unlike anything else. Eyes needs keeping on Narvesen.” - The Art Desk, 2022
“Veslemøy Narvesen is Norways next super-drummer" - NRK, 2022

Veslemøy Narvesen
Born 1997 in the city of Kristiansand (NO), Veslemøy Narvesen grew up in a musical household constantly surrounded by creative input. She started playing the violin at the age of six, later receiving lessons on both classical piano and guitar before discovering and falling in love with the drums in her early teens.
Having played with a numerous of established artists and groups in jazz as well as pop like Mall Girl, Moddi, Kongle Trio (winners of Jazzintro and GRAMO-stipendet 2021), Trondheim Jazz Orchestra, Kit Downes, Nils Petter Molvær, Arve Henriksen, Ingebrigt Håker Flaten, Anja Lauvdal and Mette Rasmussen - Narvesen has established herself as one of the most active and interesting young drummers of the Norwegian jazz-scene. In addition to her versatile work as a drummer, she has eagerly followed her aspirations as a composer and arranger - most recently through a collaboration with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra & conductor Miho Hazama to be premiered in the fall of 2025. The project was made possible partly through Veslemøy’s participation in the ArtEx-mentorprogram of Talent Norge and her one-year mentorship with arranger and composer Erlend Skomsvoll.
With her first soloalbum «We Don’t Imagine Anymore», released on Jazzland Recordings in 2023, she takes the lead following her own creative impulses filling the roles as a composer, singer, producer and multi-instrumentalist. Her first single from her second album was released in august 2025.
