Although he received professional piano training, Carlos Chavez was self-taught as a composer. Due to his experience during the time of Mexico revolution, his early music works were influenced by the intense nationalism in Mexico. His music also reflected significant elements of Indian cultures, native folk and dance forms, which caused highly different from other composer in the usage of cross-rhythms, syncopation, irregular meter and colorful orchestration. He also taught symphony orchestra in the United States, Europe and Latin America.
