"Wandering Star" includes 13 tracks, and along with Cleto Cordero, features the current lineup of Flatland Cavalry that includes Jonathan Saenz on bass and background vocals, Reid Dillon on electric guitar, Wesley Hall on fiddle, Jason Albers on drums, and Adam Gallegos who plays piano, organ, keys, mandolin, banjo, acoustic guitar, Wurlitzer, and Mellotron on the album.

Produced by Dwight A. Baker (Josh Abbott Band, Pat Green), Wandering Star is a collection of country anthems and thoughtful ballads that further elevate the band’s signature musicianship and vivid storytelling. Across these thirteen tracks, including previously released songs “Last American Summer” and “Oughta See You (The Way I Do),” Flatland Cavalry reflect on authentic day-to-day experiences, while celebrating the simple joys of life.

Already receiving critical attention, Brooklyn Vegan calls “Oughta See You (The Way I Do)” a “propulsive new single,” while Whiskey Riff praises, “heartfelt lyricism, catchy melodies, and sonically impressive instrumentation” and Holler declares, “one of the brightest Texas country-folk bands…they worked their usual musical magic.”

Reflecting on the project, Cordero shares, “Historically, all our albums have been named after a lyric that seems to most encapsulate the spirit and ethos of the project. Late one evening from my office in Nashville came the inspiration to name this record. My wife, who is from Oklahoma, acquired a piece of embroidered folk art which hangs on the wall of my office of a native man posed with Eagle wings. The art piece is untitled, but I imagined the subject being named ‘Dancing Eagle.’ Then I imagined ‘what would be my name if it were given to me in the same spirit?’… and the two words ‘Wandering Star’ floated to the surface; which happens to be a lyric in ‘Spinnin’.’ Naming our fourth albumWandering Star felt right as we have been wandering around all of creation the last ten years, truth-seeking and dream-chasing; aiming for the moon and at last it seems we’ve found ourselves finally floating amongst the stars.”

Since their 2015 debut, Flatland Cavalry has released two EPs and three full-length studio albums, including 2021’s Welcome to Countryland. Of the record, The Wall Street Journal praised, “a clear musical point of view, original melodies, mature confidence in portraying romantic matters, and increasingly fresh, distinctive lyrics…a straightforward, upbeat electrified country-rock band,” while Rolling Stone declared, “Flatland Cavalry are promising to make days a little brighter wherever they go.” With the release, the band earned two #1 singles at Texas Country Radio (“Gettin’ By” and “A Cowboy Knows How”) and garnered over 290 million streams to date across platforms. Additionally, their track, “Mountain Song,” was also recently featured in the hit television series, “Yellowstone.” Known for their electric live performances, the band has toured relentlessly these past several years including numerous sold-out headline dates as well as shows with Willie Nelson, Luke Combs, Lainey Wilson, Jordan Davis, Midland and more.

Flatland Cavalry
is breaking out into a gallop. After years of hot trotting across their native Texas, the country outfit is primed for a breakout with the release of their third full-length album, the sonically sprawling and wistfully written Welcome to Countryland.

The Texas sextet–bandleader and chief lyricist Cleto Cordero, guitarist Reid Dillon, bassist Jonathan Saenz, drummer Jason Albers, fiddle player Wesley Hall, and recent newcomer utility instrumentalist Adam Gallegos–continue to embrace their trademark sound while further pushing into the wild unknown. When it was time to embark on recording a new album, resting on their laurels was simply out of the realm of possibilities.

After the release of 2019’s critically-acclaimed Homeland Insecurity and their 2016 full-length debut Humble Folks, they’ve been on a healthy trajectory rising through the country ranks. After years of working with Lubbock stalwart Scott Faris in the friendly confines of Amusement Park Studios, Flatland decided a change of scenery was necessary. Despite some hesitation and a mix of emotions, they instantly knew recording at Nashville’s Sound Emporium Studio A with rising producer Jake Gear was the right move.

“With our last two projects, we knew that room and setup. There’s comfort in working with Scott,” says Albers. “I think it was important to try and further expand with this album. Sonically, this album is definitely something bigger.”

“I think everyone kind of experienced this bit of nervousness going from Scott’s studio to Sound Emporium,” adds Dillon. “That first day, everyone was a little fidgety and shy. You eventually fall into this comfort zone.

While the roster of collaborative confidants and colleagues (Spencer Cullum, Jim Hoke, Billy Justineau, Hailey Whitters, and Kaitlin Butts) has continued to expand with Flatland’s sound stride for stride, Countryland isn’t a cut and paste effort with Nashville studio musicians. Rather, it finds the rootsy Texans delivering their A-game due to countless tour runs zig-zagging across the country and becoming seasoned performers and musicians.

Since their humble beginnings out in the Panhandle town of Lubbock, Texas, Flatland Cavalry has embraced their surroundings and rural West Texas roots. Formed in 2014 while attending Texas Tech University, Cordero and company made their presence felt within the Hub City’s songwriting circles and dancehall circuits. Banking on Cordero’s earnest pen and the band’s blend of country instrumentation, toe-tapping grooves, and earworm choruses, Flatland quickly became a regional sensation.
