Info for KC Rules OK (2025 Remastered Deluxe Version)
20th Anniversary: To celebrate two decades since its initial release, King Creosote's landmark album, 'KC Rules OK,' will be reissued on September 26th, 2025.
Originally released in the UK on September 19th, 2005, 'KC Rules OK' quickly became a fan favourite, solidifying King Creosote (aka Kenny Anderson) as a unique voice in British indie folk. The album spawned several notable singles, including "Bootprints," "Favourite Girl," and "678," all of which showcased Anderson's distinctive songwriting.
The deluxe album pulls together a collection of B sides, songs and remixes, many from the fabled Chorlton And the Wh’Earlies unreleased promo CD including four songs that are completely commercially unreleased and are currently unavailable digitally..
KC Rules OK was King Creosote’s debut album for warner Music, and in December 2009, ranked #6 in The Skinny's "Scottish Albums of the Decade" poll.
Regarding the 20th anniversary reissue Anderson says:
“I’ve reached a point in life where nearly everything good is in the rear view mirror. When in spring 2005 the Earlies adopted king creosote to record a 4 track EP for ‘Names On Records’, the brief outlined a look back on a decade’s worth of unreleased homespun recordings, dig up a few gems worthy of polishing. Two heavily flawed diamonds - ‘Marguerita Red’ and ‘Bootprints’ - were buried deepest below several failed bands and a 2:1 in late 80s Electrical Engineering. Tom Knott at Airtight Studios fast introduced me to digital recording, and in the space of a fortnight, 4 songs quickly became 16, a bewildering work rate compared to my previous experiences with quarter inch tape. Other than the machine driven ‘teek-tok-tok-tok’ for a metronome, everything was to be played on real instruments by Lancastrian red rosy hands, directed by Christian Madden’s unerring ability to not only settle on a good idea, but to land on the right idea first time, every time. Despite our 4 song budget netting 16 completed songs, our just desserts looked awfully small and still a long, long way Off. 20 years on, with my binoculars the right way round, I can properly see (and hear) every detail in the record we made, a timeless album grown so old already that in a few months it might just sound like the future Again.”

King Creosote
Folk singer and songwriter King Creosote aka Kenneth Anderson from Fife, Scotland (born 1967) in his lengthy career has released over 40 studio albums and also been an integral member of the Scottish-Canadian band The Burns Unit.
In the early stages of his career, Anderson played in many local Scottish bands such as Skuobhie Dubh Orchestra and Khatoum Heroes and in 1995 he launched the record label Fence Collective with Johnny Lynch where he began producing and releasing material under the moniker King Creosote.
In 1998 King Creosote made his album debut with “Queen of Brush Country” featuring the tracks “Fell The Way Down, Leslie”, “Homeboy” and “Piano Crushing Back”.
On many occasions Anderson has collaborated with Domino Records and Warner music on several releases. As a huge advocate for vinyl only releases, Anderson actively seeks to keep the precious format alive.
In 2007 two of his tracks “The Someone Else” and “King Bubbles in Sand” featured on the soundtrack for the British drama film “Hallam Foe”.
In 2011 Anderson was invited to play a couple of shows at SXSW festival in Texas, U.S. and later that year his collaborative album “Diamond Mine” with Jon Hopkins was nominated for both the Mercury Prize Award and Scottish Album of the Year. For the 2014 Commonwealth Games Anderson created the official soundtrack for the tourist film “From Scotland With Love” which was later broadcast on the BBC.
Anderson can often be found collaborating on recordings and live performances with his siblings Ian (aka Pip Dylan) and Gordon (Lone Pigeon).
