'Die Zeit' bescheinigt ihr die 'B'hnenpr'senz eines Popstars'. 'O Globo' spricht von ihr als einer 'grossen Hoffnung auf die Erneuerung der brasilianischen Musik'. Lobeshymnen 'ber ihre Stimme rauschen durch alle Zeitungen, von 'warm timbriert und einschmeichelnd' ist die Rede, von einer 'Vokalakrobatik durch alle Register', von 'Sinnlichkeit und bet'rendem Raffinement'. Ohne Zweifel gehört Viviane De Farias zu den absoluten Top-Sängerinnen unter den exilbrasilianischen K'nstlern. Seltsam genug, dass sie ' obwohl als Frontfrau f'r viele Projekte hei'begehrt - bis heute keine CD unter eigenem Namen veröffentlicht hat. Nun pr'sentiert sie endlich ihr formidables Deb't 'Moment of Passion'.

Dass Viviane De Farias eine unglaubliche Palette von Stimmungen auskosten kann, kommt nicht von ungefähr. Sie stammt von dem Strand, an dem die Bossa geboren wurde, aus Ipanema im S'den Rios, und wuchs in Brasilien und in den USA (Los Angeles) auf. Ihre vielen Talente formte sie zwischen Rio und Chicago mit Schauspiel- und Gesangsunterricht gleicherma'en; während einer Sopranistenkarriere trat sie mit keinem geringeren als Placido Domingo auf. Chanson, Musical und Jazz-Standards begleiteten sie parallel zum Opernfach ' und natürlich der Kosmos der brasilianischen Musik, dem sie sich seit Mitte der 1990er ausschliesslich verschrieben hat. Über ihre neue Heimat Karlsruhe hinaus ist De Farias mit ihrer kraftgeladenen, druckvollen und zugleich so flexiblen, feinfühligen, zarten Vokalkunst in ganz Deutschland und einigen anderen europäischen Ländern unter den Brasil-Begeisterten ein leuchtender Begriff geworden. Auf die Bossa-Schiene lässt sich ihr Spektrum dabei keineswegs festlegen: Sambas, Chöros und das riesige Terrain der MPB (Musica Popular Brasileira) bewandert sie souverän ' und dies spiegelt sich auch im runden, von bezwingenden Arrangement-Einfüllen durchwobenen Repertoire ihres Debüts wieder.

Die Produzenten Paulo Morello (Gitarre) und Kim Barth (Saxophon und Flöte) studierten beide in New York, bevor sie sich in Rio de Janeiro der brasilianischen Musik gewidmet haben. Neben ihrer Dozentent'tigkeit an der Musikhochschule Nürnberg, waren Morello & Barth seither auf Tourneen und CD Proktionen von Jimmy Smith, Greetje Kauffeld und Paul Kuhn zu hören. Als musikalische Leiter ihres Projektes 'BOSSA NOVA LEGENDS' haben Sie sich inzwischen international eine Namen gemacht. Seit einigen Jahren sind sie mit diesem Projekt gemeinsam mit den herausragendsten brasilianischen Musikern in Europa und S'damerika unterwegs: Leny Andrade, Pery Ribeiro, Johnny Alf, Alaide Costa u.a.

Neben den long time companions Paulo Morello und Kim Barth, kann Viviane De Farias auf eine prächtig aufeinander eingespielte Combo zählen. Am Piano agiert mit Tizian Jost einer der führenden Tastenmeister des Brasilfachs hierzulande, Dudu Penz kommt als sowohl souverän dienender wie auch explosiv hervortretender Bassist ins Spiel. Mauro Martins, auch von Teamworks mit Raul De Souza und Tania Maria bekannt, komplettiert die Band mit pointiertem Schlagwerk.

Und nun, wie es im Text zum Titelstück heisst: 'Deixa o amor chegar em forma de can''o A noite inventa o poema, voc' inventa a can''o.' ('Lass die Liebe in Form eines Liedes kommen, die Nacht erfindet das Gedicht, du erfindest die Musik.')

Mit dem Deb't von Viviane De Farias ist endgültig eine neue Stimme geboren, die dem sternenreichen Himmel der brasilianischen Musik von Deutschland aus ein besonders helles Gestirn hinzufügt.

Viviane de Farias
Born in Ipanema, Viviane de Farias grew up in Rio de Janeiro and Los Angeles. Her solid classical background, her 'warm and caressing voice', of an 'extremely wide register and deep lyrical emotionality', her 'bewitching refinement' and 'impeccable vocal technique' earned her the reputation of 'one of the top brazilian singers' abroad. As a lyric soprano, she lent her voice to more than many projects in both ancient and contemporary classical music with heavy weights such as Placido Domingo, Kurt Masur and Zubin Mehta. She dedicated herself to folklore, jazz and chanson with the same passion and enthusiasm as to the so-called serious music. Viviane de Farias' interpretations are a mixture of such diverse styles. Her 'dynamic exuberance and elegant phrasing', her 'love and respect for melody' make her an 'interpreter of uncommon expressivity'. A remarkable debut at the State Opera in Rio de Janeiro when she was only twenty years old vaulted her to the forefront of her generation of vocalists in Brazil.

After thirteen years of an impressive career on classical vocal music and interdisciplinary performance, she finally turned to her passion, the vast musical heritage from Brazil. She has been working since then basically with jazz musicians, exploring a repertoire that combines brazilian rhythms and jazzy improvisations. Her first solo album 'Moment of passion' - (A hora da paixão, original song from brazilian legend Johnny Alf) was received with great critical acclaim and was a German critic's award nominee.

As a well respected and highly sought-after guest vocalist, Viviane has worked on various genre-bending collaborations. Her musical activities have taken her all over her native Brazil and to festivals and venues in Germany, Spain, France, Hungary, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, Japan, the USA, South Korea, Africa and Madagascar. Viviane de Farias currently lives in Germany.

Mauro Martins
is a brazilian bassplayer and drummer from Curitiba. He grew up in a musical family playing percussion and guitar with his older brothers. He switched to the electric bass at the age of sixteen and would soon be playing with several bands in his home town. On December 1989 he was invited to play in Switzerland. He decided to settle down in Europe where he has been working ever since not only as a bass player but also as a drummer and composer on several live music projects and as an arranger as well in countless studio productions. Mauro Martins appeared in major festivals and music clubs in Europe, Asia, South Africa, Madagascar and Brazil such as the Free Jazz São Paulo, Montreux Jazz Festival, Olympia, New Morning and JVC Jazz Festival in Paris, Umbria Jazz, Capetown Jazz, Pataya Jazz, Blue Note NY, Birdland only to name a few. He collaborated with outstanding artists such as, Airto Moreira & Larry Coryell, Luis Eça, Toninho Horta, Phill Collins, Tania Maria, Sebastiao Tapajos, Raul de Souza, Chico Cesar, Richard Galliano, Gregoire Maret & Gene Lake, Marcia Maria, Rosinha de Valença, Jovino Santos Neto and Itibere Zwarg from Hermeto Paschoals band and many others.
