1968 unterzeichnete Bernard Herrmann einen Vertrag mit Deccas Tocherfirma London Records für die Aufnahme einiger seiner Filmmusiken im Rahmen der Stereo-Reihe "Phase 4". In dieser Reihe entstand 1975 The Mysterious Film World of Bernard Herrmann, eine Zusammenstellung von Filmmusiken für "Herr der drei Welten" (The Three Worlds of Gulliver), "Die geheimnisvolle Insel" (Mysterious Island) und "Jason und die Argonauten". Die Aufnahme aus der Londoner Kingsway Hall mit dem National Philharmonic Orchestra gehört zu den audiophilen Perlen der Zeit. Der Klang entfaltet puren Glanz und die satte Einspielung verleiht der Komposition Würde und Intensität. Für die Aufnahmen reduzierte Herrmann leicht das Tempo, so dass die Musiker jedes Detail und jede Nuance ausspielen und damit die Tiefe und Komplexität der Werke zu Gehör bringen können.
