Motörhead the iconic Godfathers of heavy metal, released their 23rd (and final) studio album Bad Magic in 2015. Instantly hailed as one of the best the beloved trio had recorded in many years, Bad Magic: SERIOUSLY Bad Magic enjoys a bonus-packed refresh, adding two previously unreleased tracks from those furious sessions: “Bullet in Your Brain” and “Greedy Bastards” as well as a snarling, fangs-out live performance from that subsequent tour at the giant Fuji Rock Festival in Japan in 2015.

A foot-down, fist-pumping, Lemmy-bass-driven stomper with a deliciously dirty Campbell riff, and Dee-driven dynamics, both the song and footage are a tremendous treat for fans who have craved new Motörmaterial.

“Greedy Bastards” is the second rare gem found in the recording session vaults for the 23rd (and final) studio album, Bad Magic in 2015. Kicking-off with a raw spoken word intro from Lemmy, “Greedy Bastards” profound message is as relevant today as ever, whilst delivered with the classic Motörhead rip-roaring, swagger.

Bad Magic, released in 2015, produced by Cameron Webb and recorded live at NRG North Hollywood, Maple Studios and Grandmaster in California, unfurled into Motörhead’s toughest, leanest, meanest and most uncompromising album in aeons.

Phil Campbell didn’t just record possibly his finest guitars, he threw down most certainly his best solos for decades, while Mikkey Dee’s drumming found new tribal resonance with the Motörhead sound he had helped nurture. From big-rig head crushers such as “Thunder & Lightning” and “Teach Them How To Bleed”, the crackling punk energy of “Electricity” to Brian May of Queen’s scintillating guest-appearance on “The Devil”, Bad Magic delivered the goods and then some.

There was also one of Lemmy’s rawest lyrical life reflections on “Till The End”, and a cover of The Rolling Stones’ “Sympathy For The Devil”.

One of the hidden gold-dust additions to Bad Magic: SERIOUSLY BAD MAGIC, is Motörhead’s famous, and internationally acclaimed, version of David Bowie’s classic “Heroes”. It was a cover version which Lemmy had a great affection for, and as such its inclusion here is both fitting and just.

1975 formierte der frühere Hawkwind-Roadie/Bassist Lemmy Kilmister die Band Bastards und funktionierte sie nur wenig später in Motörhead um. Die erste Besetzung, die wirklich von Belang war, bestand aus Lemmy (Bass, Gesang), Fast Eddie Clarke (Gitarre) und Phil Taylor (Schlagzeug). Die Presse hasste Motörhead zunächst und titulierte sie 1975 nach der Veröffentlichung des Debütalbums als „schlechteste Band der Welt“. Zwei Jahre später bereits änderte sich die Stimmung bei der schreibenden Presse jedoch: „Sie wissen, dass sie wie die Tiere sind, und sie wollen auch als gar nicht anderes erscheinen. Wo im Heavy Metal so viele hässliche Frösche herum springen, die sich einbilden, sie seien Gottes Geschenk an die Frauen, kommen einem diese Quasimodos sogar irgendwie charmant vor“, konstatierte 1977 ein deutsches Musikmagazin. 1980 landeten Motörhead mit dem Titelsong ihres Albums Ace Of Spades einen ihrer größten Klassiker. Unmittelbar nach Ace Of Spades folgte der zweite Höhepunkt, der aus den Annalen der Rockmusik nicht mehr wegzudenken ist: No Sleep ´Till Hammersmith mit Live-Aufnahmen aus dem legendären Londoner Club ´Hammersmith Odeon`. Im Herbst 1982 verließ Gitarrist Eddie Clarke wegen Unzufriedenheit über Motörheads kommerzielle Entwicklung die Band. Für ihn stieß Ex- Thin Lizzy-Gitarrist Brian Robertson zu Lemmy & Co. und sorgte für Ärger. Der verwöhnte Robertson wollte eine Sonderbehandlung, benahm sich wie eine Diva und geriet mit dieser Haltung zwangsläufig mit Lemmy aneinander. „Robertson wollte sich niemals Motörhead unterordnen sondern ´Brian Robertson featuring Motörhead Artists` sein“, schimpft Lemmy. „Für so etwas habe ich keine Zeit, ich will eine funktionierende Band.“ Nach der Veröffentlichung von Another Perfect Day verließ Robertson die Gruppe 1983 wieder, für ihn kamen Phil Campbell und Michael Burston alias Würzel. Anfang der Neunziger geriet das Flaggschiff Motörhead ins Trudeln. Die Band unterschrieb ihren ersten Major-Deal und versuchte auf Drängen der Plattenfirma den bis dato ungezügelten Kraftrock stärker gen Radioeinsatz zu schmirgeln. Das 91er Album 1916 stellte die Fans noch zufrieden, das ein Jahr später folgende MARCH ÖR DIE Fiel dagegen komplett durch. Doch Motörhead erwiesen sich als unverwüstlich und konnten die Gunst ihrer Fans zurückgewinnen. Seit Würzels Ausstieg im Jahr 1995 sind Motörhead wieder ein Trio, mit Lemmy, Schlagzeuger Mikkey Dee und Gitarrist Phil Campbell als Protagonisten. Die Presse attestiert der Band, die klassische Drei-Mann-Tradition immer wieder neu zu vitalisieren. Mit dem aktuellen Line Up legen Motörhead seither ein pralles Rockalbum nach dem anderen vor. Die fabelhaften Studiowerke We Are Motörhead (2000), Hammered (2002) und Inferno (2004), dazu die prickelnden Live-Scheiben Everything Louder Than Everything Else (1999) und Live At Brixton (2003), zwischenzeitlich die erste DVD Boneshaker (2001) und deren hochwertiger Nachfolger, die Doppel-DVD Stage Fright, lassen nur einen Schluss zu: Mit der Fan-Edition Inferno (30th Anniversay) dokumentiert die Band, dass sie nie präsenter als heute war.
