Mónica Waisman
studied violin at the renowned Oberlin College and continued her studies in The Hague, focusing on the baroque violin. This was followed by a career with some of Europe’s most celebrated early music ensembles and orchestras, taking her on tours across the globe. Currently, she performs regularly throughout Europe, North America, and South America—including with the ensemble Musica Temprana, with which she rediscovers treasures of 18th-century musical literature from Latin America. Furthermore, she remains in constant demand as a chamber musician, concertmaster, and soloist with various ensembles in both Europe and South America.
Florian Deuter
is one of the leading baroque violinists of his generation. He began his career in 1987 with Reinhard Goebel’s Musica Antiqua Köln, where he served as concertmaster from 1994 to 2000. He was quickly invited to take leading roles in other renowned early music ensembles as well. He has served as concertmaster for—among others—the Gabrieli Consort under the direction of Paul McCreesh; Chapelle Royale and Collegium Vocale Gent under Philippe Herreweghe; and Marc Minkowski’s Les Musiciens du Louvre. His work also encompasses solo engagements and concertmaster positions with ensembles such as the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra under Ton Koopman, the European Baroque Orchestra, and Concerto Köln.
Harmonie Universelle
Passion and virtuosity, tenderness and intensity: these are the qualities that the ensemble Harmonie Universelle harmoniously blends within its artistic vision. The ensemble’s name serves as its manifesto; through it, the group invokes the writings of the French scholar Marin Mersenne, who depicted the world as a harmonious whole.
Harmonie Universelle brings together international musicians who explore the full spectrum of collaborative music-making—ranging from intimate chamber duos to large-scale orchestral formations. At the helm are German violinist Florian Deuter and Argentine violinist Mónica Waisman. The ensemble’s members hail from Italy, Hungary, France, Austria, England, the Netherlands, Switzerland, Portugal, and Spain, as well as Japan, the USA, Canada, Colombia, and Australia.
Since its inception, the ensemble has been a regular guest at leading music festivals and on major concert stages—including, for instance, the Utrecht Festival of Early Music, the Bachfest Leipzig, the Musikfest Bremen, the Festival d’Ambronay, the Festival de Música Antigua de Barcelona, Styriarte Graz, the Concertgebouw Amsterdam, Versailles, the Cologne Philharmonie, and many others.
Harmonie Universelle’s outstanding interpretations can be heard on various CD recordings released by the French label Eloquentia and the German label Accent, which have garnered numerous accolades from the international music press.
Since 2008, Harmonie Universelle has maintained its own concert series in Cologne and North Rhine-Westphalia, through which the ensemble regularly presents new programs.
