Royal Danish Academy of Music Chamber Orchestra
has been the country’s only musician-owned orchestra since 2015, though its roots reach back 86 years to its founding in 1939 as the Danish National Radio Light Orchestra.
Through its collaboration with Chief Conductor Adam Fischer, the orchestra has gained broad international ecognition while also maintaining a sharply defined profile in popular music.
The Danish Chamber Orchestra connects Denmark through great musical experiences, insists on the social relevance of music, and is deeply committed to talent development, outreach, and the creation of new concert formats. A special priority is placed on engaging children and young people, and the orchestra works with municipalities across the country to ensure that music reaches audiences of all generations.
Max Artved
studied at RDAM under Professor Jørgen Hammergaard, with further studies in London under Gordon Hunt and in Paris under Maurice Bourgue. He made his debut concert from RDAM’s soloist class (Advanced Postgraduate Diploma in Music) in 1990, to subsequent overwhelming critical acclaim.
Max Artved has been professor of oboe and woodwind at RDAM since 2009. In addition to his teaching at RDAM, he has also been affiliated with Malmö Academy of Music as an oboe teacher.
Many of Max’s students today hold various positions in Danish and Swedish orchestras, including Eva Steinaa: Principal oboist with the Danish National Symphony Orchestra (DNSO), Felicia Greciuc: Principal oboist with the Royal Danish Orchestra, Oliver Nordahl: Principal oboist with the Aarhus Symphony Orchestra, and Inken Menk: Principal oboist in Falun Symphony Orchestra.
Max is a renowned solo oboist and chamber musician. He has been a soloist several times with, amongst others, the DNSO, the Copenhagen Phil, Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and Odense Symphony Orchestra, in oboe concertos by R. Strauss, W.A. Mozart, Jouni Kaipainen, A. Honegger, F. Henriques, V. Holmboe and Bo Holten.
Max has been a member of Helsingborg Symphony Orchestra and the Royal Danish Orchestra, and in 1990 he was appointed principal oboist of the DNSO, 1991-2010 as first principal oboist. Together with the DNSO, he has toured most of the world and has recorded a number of key symphonies by Carl Nielsen, Ludvig v. Beethoven and G. Mahler, amongst others.
From 2004-2018 Max was artistic director of the Diamond Ensemble – the Royal Library’s own ensemble – which consists of five wind players and five string players, who currently hold key positions in, amongst others, the DNSO, the Royal Danish Orchestra, the Copenhagen Phil and the Norwegian Chamber Orchestra. A large number of international soloists have performed with the ensemble since its inception, including star soloists such as Leif Ove Andsnes and Nikolaj Znaider. The ensemble has collaborated with key Danish artists and young talents in recent years, which has been realised in co-operation with RDAM.
Max has also been a frequent chamber musician and soloist in Danish chamber music societies, and founded the DNSO’s Wind Quintet.
