The effervescent creativity of Franco Margola (already featured on the double CD Tactus TC 901390, Chamber Music · Concertos for Soloist and Orchestra) focuses in this recording on music for guitar, both as a solo instrument and in chamber music settings.

Margola’s approach to the guitar occurred in 1967. In an interview given to Maestro Domenico Lafasciano for the magazine Accademia della chitarra classica, the composer explained that his interest in this instrument matured thanks to his friend and colleague Renzo Cabassi (1908-1988). Initially, Margola was reluctant to compose for the guitar as he barely knew its tuning, but eventually, the particularities of this fascinating and intimate instrument inspired him more and more, making it one of his favorites.

The De Carli catalogue lists over 450 works for guitar, both solo and chamber ensemble, many of which remain unpublished and unknown. Mauro and Luciano Tortorelli – with the assistance of Ludovica del Bagno on violin – perform this first-ever recording of previously unpublished works by the brilliant composer from Brescia.

Luciano Tortorelli
graduated in guitar with full marks from the Italian National Conservatoire and was later awarded a Diploma of Merit from the Accademia Musicale in Pescara. He continued his academic career with Alvaro Company in Florence, undertaking a clear course of research with respect to technique and expression. After earning a scholarship with Diploma of Merit from the Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, he graduated from Salerno University with full marks in Literature and Philosophy, also from Roma University with a Master Degree, completing his composition studies with the Argentinian composer Eduardo Ogando.

Tortorelli keeps a busy concert schedule, as soloist and with his brother Mauro violinist, encompassing many important musical institutions in a variety of countries, including Carnegie Hall New York, St Martin-in-the-Fields in London, the Tchaikovsky Conservatoire in Moscow, the Dublin Philharmonic, the Czech Guitar Society, the French Guitar Society in Metz, the Louis Leakey Memorial Hall in Nairobi, the Ravello Concert Society at Villa Rufolo, the International Lyceum Club Concert Series in Florence, RAI national television, Radio Nacional Clasica – Argentina, the Slovkoncert Agency in Slovakia, amongst others.

Alongside contributing to music and guitar magazines of international acclaim, such as Revista Musical Catalana (Spain), GuitArt, Guitart International and dotGuitar (Italy), he is a dedicated studio musician.

His debut album was released by the South Korean label Aulos Music. His CD “Latin Latitudes”, for solo guitar, produced and internationally distributed by Brilliant Classics (2016) and his CD for Tactus Records, that includes the world premiere recordings of Francesco Molino’s Sonatas op.2 and op.7 for guitar with accompaniment of violin, were highly rated by internationally acclaimed magazines such as Classical Guitar, Guitart, Musica, Seicorde (CD of the Month), Il Fronimo etc. His recordings were also presented by Radio Nacional Argentina “De Segovia a Yupanqui“ in a live recital-interview, RAI Radio 3 “Primo Movimento”, Radio Vaticana “Incontri Musicali”, Radio Toscana Classica. His next CD "Franco Margola" produced by Tactus Records will be released in March 2026. He has edited the first modern edition of Francesco Molino’s 3 Sonatas Op.2 for guitar with violin accompaniment, published by Chanterelle-Schott and the John W. Duarte’s “Variations on a theme of Nikita Koshkin”, published by Doberman-Yppan.

On February 28th 2017 he made his debut at New York City's Carnegie Hall. The acclaimed guitarist–composer Alvaro Company dedicated "Preludio" (pensando a Čajkovskij) op.17 and "Bagatelle" op.53 to Luciano Tortorelli, who received another dedication by the cellist-composer of Astor Piazzolla, Josè Bragato: his personal arrangement of “Suite Hispana” for guitar and strings. Other dedications are: "Canzone seconda e Divertimento" (dedicated to Duo Tortorelli) ) by Ganesh Del Vescovo; "From Porto Alegre" by Michael Knopf and "Alabastrum" by Stefano Sergio Schiattone.

Savarez Artist and Doozoo Ambassador, Luciano Tortorelli is often invited as president of International Guitar Competitions.

He plays a guitar expressly made for him by Antonius Müller in 2024, a José Ramirez III (‘Elite’ model) made in 1988 and a Lubos Naprstek made in 2014 (New Jersey, USA).

Luciano Tortorelli is ordinary professor of guitar at the "G. Martucci" Conservatory (AFAM - Ministry of University).
