Throughout Latin America, the composers featured on this album drew on the folk music of their countries to then build more complex, sophisticated interpretations. This analysis is at the heart of the duo’s latest project. Through extensive personal research and arrangements, Marielle Gars (piano) and Sébastien Authemayou (bandoneon) have created a fascinating vision of Latin American music, giving a masterful interpretation of the sounds of far-off lands.

The Duo Intermezzo places strong emphasis on musical miniatures in their concert programming and on this CD. The name of the duo is taken from the movie Intermezzo because it also tells a
story about a pianist and a violinist (also see track 7).
The selections on this CD are taken from three of Duo Intermezzo’s recital programs: “Love’s joy, love’s sorrow,” a musical tour abroad, “Do you like Brahms?” with humorous selections from the composer’s life and “What a show!” (So’n Theater!) with music from film and stage.
