Info for Haydn: Wallerstein Symphonies
Based in Bad Brückenau, the Bavarian Chamber Orchestra was founded in 1979 and comprises professional musicians from Germany, Austria and the Czech Republic, who meet regularly for projects, such as this CD, for which Johannes Moesus used Haydn’s original versions. The booklet says: « The symphonies function very well in the autograph version without trumpets and timpani, and reflect Haydn’s original intention. They thus seem more chamber music like, but lack nothing of temperament or colours. » Right from the beginning, the listener can notice a careful sound shaping. Moesus combines a lively music-making with lavish ornamentation and lively colours. The result is very fresh and at the same time it has a very balanced sound of great clarity and admirable refinement. The Bayerisches Kammerorchester impresses with a flexible and light yet always full and warm playing. Moesus thus proves a highly competent Haydn conductor for whom vitality has to express itself in a natural and never exaggerated way.
