Info for Préludes et solitudes

Violinist Marie Nadeau-Tremblay presents Preludes et solitudes, a very personal album of pieces for solo unaccompanied violin by Baroque composers such as Telemann, Purcell, Torelli, Baltzar and Biber. The booklet for Preludes et solitudes includes Nadeau-Tremblay's poems inspired by each piece she selected for the program, and the album cover is a self-portrait by the violinist, who is also an accomplished visual artist.

"This album is the result of hours of solitary practice during the long confinement of 2020, as well as even more countless hours spent in the greatest solitude dreaming, drawing. and writing. In music as in writing or drawing, my desire is always the same to share the atmosphere, the feeling of a precious moment," writes Marie Nadeau-Tremblay.

Named Radio Canada Classical Revelation 2021-2022, Marie Nadeau-Tremblay is also the recipient of the Choquette Symcox Award from Jeunesses Musicales of Canada. Her album La Peste with Les Barocudas (ACD22809) was one of CBC Music's top 20 classical albums of 2020 and was nominated for a 2021 JUNO Award.

Recipient of numerous awards and scholarships from McGill University, and four-time winner of the prestigious Mary McLaughlin Award, Marie Nadeau-Tremblay was also awarded a scholarship from Early Music America in 2017. In 2019, she was named to the Mathieu Duguay International Early Music Competition's Honour Roll four times for First Prize, Audience Prize, Montreal Baroque Festival Prize and the Ete musical de Barachois Prize.

Marie Nadeau-Tremblay, violin

Marie Nadeau-Tremblay
During the final session of her undergraduate degree in violin performance at McGill University, Marie Nadeau- Tremblay decided to try her hand at the Baroque. She joined the university’s Baroque orchestra and fell head over heels in love! Transported by the beauty of this music— and finding resonance with its mode of expression— she decided to plunge headfirst into the Baroque world. After obtaining a Licentiate Degree, she pursued further studies under the tutelage of Hank Knox, Lena Weman, and Olivier Brault, receiving a Master’s Degree in Early Music Performance. After being awarded numerous prizes and scholarships at McGill — including the prestigious Mary McLaughlin prize, which she won four years in a row — Marie Nadeau-Tremblay received an Early Music America grant in 2017. More recently, in 2019, she swept the honor roll of the Concours de musique ancienne Mathieu Duguay with an unprecedented four awards: First Prize, the People’s Choice Award, the Festival Montréal Baroque Prize, and the Été musical de Barachois Prize.
