Info for R. Schumann: Complete Chamber Music & Violin Concerto (Live)

The idea for a series of recordings devoted to the music of Robert Schumann arose from Pierre and Theo Fouchenneret's work on the Sonatas for violin and piano, and from a desire to expand the project by exploring the rest of his chamber music as well as his concertos - for Schumann treats the orchestra in a very chamber-music-like manner in his concertante works. Following the complete chamber music of Johannes Brahms, recorded on the same label, Pierre and Theo decided to launch this Schumann Collection, with the support of their long-standing collaborators in the field of chamber music: the Strada Quartet, Victor Julien-Laferriere, Florent Pujuila, Philibert Perrine, Felix Roth, Caroline Sypniewski, Sarah Fouchenneret, and Hortense Cartier-Bresson. All are soloists, quartet players and chamber musicians who also perform with orchestras, driven by a shared passion for Schumann's music, which lends itself particularly well to a series of live albums: there is a warmth, an urgency and a passion in the concert experience that are essential to performing this music well. Each concert was recorded by the b. records team with a view to this ambitious complete collection that you now hold in your hands.

Pierre Fourchenneret
one of the associated artists of the Foundation Singer Polignac, has enjoyed a strong recognition right back to his tender years. Thus as soon as his twelfth year he was granted the first prize for violin at the CNR - National Regional Conservatory - in Nice; then at sixteen the first prize for violin and chamber music at the CNSM - National Superior Conservatory of Music - in Paris; and he was a prize winner for Nataxis, and for the Grand Prize of the International Competition of chamber music in Bordeaux.Enriched by the exceptional teachings he benefited from Alain Babouchian at the CNR in Nice, Olivier Chartier at the CNSM in Paris and Devy Erlih, Pierre Fourchenneret has wished to transmit as well and has become a teacher in the Superior Pole of Bordeaux.

This recognition also gives him the pleasure to collaborate with the most gifted musicians of his generation and to give performances on the greatest national and international stages. This is how in 2013 he founds the quartet Strada with François Salque, Sarah Nemtanu and Lise Berthaud.

His virtuosity, "his intense, precise and colourful playing" (Classica) and his buoyancy are appreciated by French and international orchestras as the ones in Bordeaux Aquitaine, Dijon, the philharmonic in Nice, Brno, the Baltic in St Petersburg. With a passion for chamber music, he is also the violinist of the string trio 71 together with Eric Picard and Nicolas Bone.

In the course of his career as a soloist and as a chamber musician, his first record devoted to Mendelssohn trios comes out in 2007. It will be followed by a series of records, all of them unanimously praised by the critics. Thus he is awarded the Choc Classica for a record devoted to the French composer George Louis Onslow. In 2015 he publishes no less than three opus; the first one is dedicated to the quartet with piano no. 3 opus 3 by Mendelssohn; in the second one "Bohème", he interprets the Bach Chaconne, the Kodaly Duo with François Salque and the second Bartok sonata for violin and piano with Romain Descharmes. Finally for the third one, again with Romain Descharmes he records Beethoven's complete sonatas for violin and piano. Driven by his absolute passion for this composer, he deepens his work and at the beginning of this year 2016 he releases a record of his last two quartets. The year 2016 will be marked by numerous projects among which a record featuring the complete music for violin of Fauré. In 2017 he will start a cycle of the complete Brahms chamber music alongside Eric Lesage.

The work done by Pierre Fourchenneret which we can discover in particular with his different recordings, reflects his perpetual search for an aesthetic that is pure and free of affect, but also his deep love and respect of the text.

Wonderful on stage, Pierre Fourchenneret can also take risks and surprise his audience: "It was so revealing to listen to the quality of the silence of the public absolutely seized […] Overwhelming is the word that was on the music lovers' lips, in a state of shock"; "a large public had come and was conscious of their privilege in attending a rare concert" (Ouest France).

Théo Fouchenneret
won the first prize at the Geneva International Competition in November 2018 before being named "revelation instrumental soloist" at the Victoires de la Musique Classique. The same year he won the 1st prize as well as five special prizes at the Lyon International Chamber Music Competition with the Messiaen Trio.

Applauded by great halls and international festivals, he also performs with internationally renowned musicians: Victor Julien-Laferrière, Renaud Capuçon, François Salque, Lise Berthaud, Svetlin Roussev...

In March 2020, he released his first solo CD with La Dolce Volta, a recording devoted to Beethoven's great Waldstein and Hammerklavier sonatas. Theo is also a great chamber musician, as evidenced by his extensive discography with musicians such as Eric Le Sage, Tatsuki Narita, the Messiaen Trio and Raphaël Sévère, the Xenakis Trio and Philippe Hattat.

The young pianist will dedicate his next solo recording to Gabriel Fauré.

In addition, Théo is at the initiative of the recording project of the complete chamber music of Robert Schumann, which will begin with the opuses for violin and piano, alongside his brother Pierre Fouchenneret.

"One is struck by a presence and a full and intense sound. Quickly, the contrasts seize us. Fouchenneret invites us to a true interpretation." - Diapason

Normandy Regional Orchestra
The artistic vision of theNormandy Regional Orchestra is unique in France due to the distinctive nature of its instrumental line-up, the diversity of its artistic programme and the artistic generosity of its musicians.

Since its inception, this orchestra has become a key musical ensemble in its region and an ambassador for Normandy throughout France. The Normandy Regional Orchestra was founded in December 1982 on the initiative of the Basse-Normandie Region and the Ministry of Culture and Communication under the name: the Basse-Normandie Instrumental Ensemble. Its offices were then located in Coutances, at the Centre culturel les Unelles in the Manche department. From July 1983, the Ensemble was based at the Château de Fresney-le-Puceux (Calvados) until 1990, when it moved to the Abbaye aux Dames in Caen, the seat of the Basse-Normandie Region. Since 2008, it has been hosted in residence by the town of Mondeville at ‘L’Hôtellerie’, a Neo-Norman-style building situated on the former site of the Société Métallurgique de Normandie, close to the La Renaissance theatre.

At the time of its formation, the ORN comprised twelve permanent members (a string quintet, a wind quintet, a piano and a harpsichord-organ) and was conducted by Dominique Debart from 1984 onwards. In 1989, the ensemble expanded to eighteen musicians (twelve strings, a wind quintet and a piano). Francine Trachier was then appointed first violin until 2017.

From 2009, Guillaume Lamas was appointed chief executive until 2017. Under his leadership, the ensemble changed its name, becoming the Ensemble Orchestre de Basse-Normandie in 2010, before becoming the Orchestre Régional de Basse-Normandie in 2013 and then, in 2015, following the merger of the regions, the Orchestre Régional de Normandie.

Since January 2019, the Orchestre Régional de Normandie has been led by Pierre-François Roussillon. Florian Maviel was appointed concertmaster in May 2019.

On the initiative of the Normandy Region and the State, the ORN is involved in setting up the ‘Normandie Lyrique et Symphonique’ platform, which brings together the Théâtre de Caen, the Opéra de Rouen Normandie and the Normandy Regional Orchestra. This platform promotes events bringing the two orchestras together.

The musical direction of the Regional Orchestra was held successively by Dominique Debart from 1984 to 2010, Jean-Pierre Wallez and Jean Deroyer, associate conductors from 2010 to 2014, and by Jean Deroyer, principal conductor since 2014.

Since 2005, the Normandy Regional Orchestra has been in residence with the City of Mondeville and La Renaissance as a preferred artistic partner, and has been regularly invited by the Théâtre de Caen as part of its programme since 2006.

The orchestra presents numerous performances throughout the Normandy region and beyond. It engages an ever-growing audience with high-quality projects that are both ambitious and accessible to all.

Presenting nearly 300 concerts and cultural events each year across the region and the country to tens of thousands of spectators, the Normandy Regional Orchestra plays a vital role in the region’s development and appeal, and contributes to its cultural and social fabric.

The Normandy Regional Orchestra is supported and funded by the Normandy Regional Council and the Ministry of Culture and Communication — the Normandy Regional Directorate for Cultural Affairs — with the participation of the Departmental Councils of La Manche, Calvados and Orne.

Since 2005, the Normandy Regional Orchestra has been in residence with the Town of Mondeville and La Renaissance, which acts as its preferred artistic partner.
