Juliette Hurel and Isabelle Moretti present an inspired selection of French music for flute and harp, featuring key masterpieces alongside some rare delights. From the intensely vocal melodic line of Fauré and Debussy’s playful exploration of timbres and resonances to the subtly sculpted writing of Jean Cras, this recital highlights the virtuosity and expressive verve of a duo of great stylistic finesse.

Juliette Hurel
is known in both the French and the international music world as a famous flautist. She was unanimously awarded the first prize for flute and the first prize for chamber music at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique in Paris and obtained prizes in different competitions such as those in Darmstadt, Kobé, Boekarest and the Jean-Pierre Rampal concours. In 2004 she was nominated for the “Discoveries of the year” in the “Victoires de la Musique Classique”.

Juliette is in much demand for chamber music and then performs beside musicians such as Gary Hoffman, Youri Bashmet, Schlomo Mintz, Marielle Normann, Jean-Guihen Queras,Stephen Kovachevich and the Wanderer trio.

As a soloist she can be regularly heard with l’Orchestre d’Auvergne, l’Orchestre de chambre de Toulouse, l’Orchestre de Bretagne, l’Orchestre de l’Opéra de Rouen, l’Orchestre Symphonique et Lyrique de Nancy, “Les Siècles” and the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, as well as at well-known venues such as La Cité de la Musique, Grand Théâtre de Provence, la Roque d’Anthéron, les Folles Journées de Nantes, Festival de la Meije, Colmar, Auvers-sur-Oise and les Flâneries Musicales de Reims. Through her fondness for contemporary music she has had the opportunity to work with composers such as Pierre Boulez, Pascal Dusapin, Philippe Hersant and Eric Tanguy.

Since 1998 Juliette has been solo flautist with Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, first conducted by Valery Gergiev and since 2008 conducted by Yannick Nézet-Séguin. Juliette Hurel has made various recordings with pianist Hélène Couvert. The recordings which won prizes and were warmly received by the critics include : Martinu/Prokoviev (Lyrinx) ; French repertoire XXth century for (Naïve-Valois); Haydn Flute Sonatas (Zig-Zag Territoires). Further, she recorded the concertos for flute and orchestra by C.P.E. Bach with l’Orchestre d’Auvergne under the baton of Arie van Beek, “Impressions françaises” -works with piano by Debussy, Fauré, Poulenc-, both for Zig-Zag Territoires, Her album “Dawn of Romanticism » has been released in 2014 for Naïve. Her last CD is dedicated to the Mozart complete « Flute Quartets » with members of Quatuor Voce. This recording which appeared last June for AlphaClassics was also highly acclaimed and welcomed by the French and international press.

Because of her warm and sincere charisma she is regularly invited for television broadcasts on France 2, France 3… Her participation in the concert “Best of Bach” at the “Folle Journée de Nantes” was broadcast on Arte and recently a documentary about her appeared on Mezzo.

Philippe Hersant’s words define the qualities of an artist who is an ambassador for the French harp throughout the world, and whose musical curiosity embraces a vast repertoire from the eighteenth century to the present day.

From the beginning of her exceptional career, Isabelle Moretti has been invited by the most important concert halls and festivals. These include the Alice Tully Hall (New York), the Wigmore Hall and King’s Place (London), the Munich Philharmonie and the Herkulessaal, the Frankfurt Opera, the Auditorium du Louvre, Opéra Comique, Arsenal de Metz, Musée d’Orsay, Maison de Radio-France, Salle Gaveau, Théâtre des Champs-Elysées, the Rheingau and Schleswig Holstein festivals, the Folles Journées de Nantes, at El Sistema in Caracas, and the December Nights of Sviatoslav Richter Festival in Moscow.

Isabelle Moretti’s need to share music also manifests itself through special collaborations with colleagues of particular affinity, such as Juliette Hurel, Magali Mosnier, the Quatuor Ebène and Dame Felicity Lott, and the oboist and conductor François Leleux with whom she had the pleasure of playing Mozart’s celebrated Concerto for Flute and Harp.

Isabelle Moretti’s discography, as rich as it is varied, enjoys widespread success in the media and among critics. It has been awarded a Victoire de la Musique, the Grand Prix de la Nouvelle Académie du Disque, the Prix Charles Cros, a Choc du Monde de la Musique, a 10/10 from Répertoire, and ffff from Télérama.

In present times, Isabelle Moretti is also acutely committed to ecology. The artist feels Pierre Rabhi’s words as if they were her own: « The earth, a silent being of which we are one of the living expressions, harbours eternal values formed of what is most lacking: the right cadence, the flavour of the seasons, and patience. » Isabelle Moretti can only conceive of her mission as a musician in close connection with her deepest convictions. Her poetic tale Parole de terre (“Word of the Earth”), also inspired by Rahbi’s writings, is a vibrant illustration of this.

She fulfils her passion for teaching through her positions as Professor at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de la Musique et de la Danse in Paris. She also loves to travel the world and meet young people from all cultures through her numerous masterclasses.

Isabelle Moretti is an Officer of the French National Order of Merit, and an Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters. In 2024, she has been awarded the Grand Prix Tissier-Grandpierre by the Institut de France.
