Das Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal (OSM) und Kent Nagano veröffentlichen am 22. Juni 2018 anlässlich des 100. Bernstein-Jubiläums die Erstaufnahme der Kammermusikensemble-Fassung von Leonard Bernsteins “A quiet place“ bei Decca.
A quiet place“ feierte 1983 seine Premiere und war das letzte von Bernstein komponierte Bühnenwerk. Die auf der CD enthaltene Fassung für Kammerensemble von Garth Edwin Sunderland wurde im Mai 2017 live in der Maison Symphonique de Montréal aufgenommen.
Kent Nagano wurde Leonard Bernstein 1984 durch den Komponisten und Dirigenten Seiji Ozawa vorgestellt und studierte bei ihm bis zu dessen Tod 1990. Kent Nagano sagt über Bernstein: „Für Bernstein war Musik Leben – beides gehörte unzertrennlich zusammen. Er hörte nie auf, seine eigene kompositorische Sprache zu erforschen und voran zu treiben. Ziel dieser CD-Adaption ist es, der temperamentvollen Brillianz und poetischen Tiefe des Werkes – einschließlich der Tanzrhythmen und Elemente amerikanischer Folklore – Ausdruck zu verleihen. Wir hoffen, dass die zeitlose und universelle Qualität des Stückes und das Genie der Komposition in dieser neuen Aufnahme sichtbar werden.“
